• <p>Prof Frances Shannon has extensive leadership and senior management experience within higher education and medical research institutes including nine years as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation at the University of Canberra and six years in leadership roles at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, with two years as Director.</p> <p>Her background includes degrees (BSc(Hons) and PhD) in biochemistry and zoology from University College Dublin, a successful career in biomedical research, specifically gene regulation in the immune system and has published extensively and been recognised through awards and prizes.</p> <p>Over her career, she has developed expertise in the following areas;</p> <ul> <li>Leadership and management including strategy in a collegiate environment,</li> <li>National and international research policy environments and ranking systems,</li> <li>Research funding schemes especially NHMRC, ARC, CRCs, large funding bid preparation as well as grant assessment systems,</li> <li>Understanding of university administrative and research support mechanisms,</li> <li>Governance and advisory boards, innovation strategy and commercial development of research.</li> </ul> <p>She is now an Emeritus Professor at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University and an Adjunct Full Professor, College of Health and Agricultural Sciences, University College Dublin.</p>
