Diane Zetlin

  • Diane Zetlin (PhD, BA Hons 1st Class, Grad. Dip. Australian Institute of Company Directors) has a career that crosses the academic, industry and public sectors. She has supervised many doctoral students and mentored students into successful academic and public sector careers. She has a track record in attracting grants to conduct research, including ARC grants. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, edited publications, and commissioned reports. Her PhD is in political philosophy and her academic career has been in Political Science, focusing on Peace and Conflict Studies and Gender Studies. She remains an active researcher, teacher, and research and training consultant in the Pacific Region and the History of Philosophy. 

    She has been appointed to Commonwealth Government advisory boards on higher education and gender equity in education, consulted for governments, and served as a Non-Executive Director on government corporations.  She has been appointed to the Academic Board and Senate at the University of Queensland. 

    A strong advocate for academic and research staff working conditions and recognition, Dr. Zetlin was General Secretary of the Federated Australian University Staff Associations (the predecessor to the National Tertiary Education Union) and inaugural President of the NTEU.
