Keith Nugent

  • Keith Nugent is a physicist with an extensive track record in research and commercialisation. He has led an ARC Centre of Excellence in interdisciplinary science, he has been the Director of the Australian Synchrotron (a major scientific facility based in Melbourne) and he has commercialised the results of his research. He has also received numerous awards for his work including being elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, being awarded a Centenary Medal and receiving two RD100 awards for innovation. He has twice won an ARC Federation Fellowship.


    After 27 years at The University of Melbourne, including six years as Head of the School of Physics, Keith spent six years as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research at La Trobe University and five years as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research & Innovation at the Australian National University. He has served on numerous advisory and commercial boards.

    Keith is currently an Emeritus Professor of Physics at both La Trobe University and the Australian National University.
